White Mussaenda by Nandita De nee Chatterjee

The dust and din finally settles.

It's way past sunset

which no one cared to witness.

Slumped shoulders trudged home.

Burdened minds now trying to sleep.

Silence falls grudgingly in the city.

My unsettled mind seeks escape.

The white mussaenda outside beckons.

Golden pollen gesticulates.

Come savor the night.

Hear the whispers

the crooning wind

the sensual swaying of the leaves

the dew floating down ever so slowly.

Come touch my velvety petals

refreshed each night by the mist.

Standing straight through the day

ignored, outshined always

the lingering moonbeam brings me to life

the dark night gives me a shine.

White mussaenda, pure, innocent

your rhythm suddenly makes reason.

Nights are born for stars to be unveiled.

Silences pregnant with possibilities.

Eyes closed to look beyond.

Senses awakened to savor the essence.

White mussaenda outside my window

you take me where I cannot go.

Bringing me alive when I'm all done.

Carrying me outdoors to realms unknown.

New charms, new spells

nights taking transcendental turns

visions beyond the furthest shores.

White mussaenda, you exist for me.

Or, is it that I exist for you?
